Wales doubles training posts for community nurses

The number of training places for community nurses in Wales will more than double next year, the country's health minister has announced.

A total of 98 posts will be available from September, compared to just 45 last year.

Health minister Edwina Hart said the move aimed to help the Welsh Assembly Government build a workforce to support plans to increase the proportion of NHS services delivered in the community.

Ms Hart also announced an extra 180 ‘return to practice' courses for nurses over the next three years.

Director of RCN Wales Tina Donnelly said the organisation had campaigned for the increase: ‘We are pleased the minister has listened to our views. We believe patient care will benefit from this investment.'
