Vigil for the NHS on Thursday 14th December 5-7pm in Bonn Square, Oxford
Across the country protests are being held over December 14th and 15th against the privatisation of the NHS. Keep our NHS Public Oxfordshire are holding a candle-lit vigil on Thursday 14th December 7-9pm in Bonn Square in the centre of Oxford. The candles will spell out ‘NHS’ surrounded by a heart to signify the regard the British public have for the NHS.
The government wants the public to believe that the NHS is in crisis and that the extra money they have given the NHS is being squandered by greedy doctors and inefficient managers.
Keep our NHS Public believe that current deficits are due to a government policy that dictates that money is pouring out of the NHS and into the pockets of large multi-national companies.
Dr Ken Williamson of Oxfordshire Keep Our NHS Public said:
‘The government use words such as ‘modernisation’ and ‘flexibility’ to explain why it is handing over huge swaths of the NHS over to the big companies. At the Horton Hospital the NHS is paying Capio – a private Swedish company – £1.6 million A MONTH to do operations that were being done in the NHS.
‘If operations are not done at the private treatment centre the NHS in Oxfordshire pays twice. This is because of contracts negotiated by the Department of Health – not local mangers, who were simply told what was going to happen.
‘The government needs to come clean with its policy of privatisation and stop blaming doctors, nurses and managers. The public need to wake up to what happening before the first bill arrives on their doormats.’
