Video: Warn patients that practices have been denied new funding, says GP

GPs must tell the public they have been misled if investment promised through the GP Forward View does not materialise, an LMC representative has told GPC leaders.

Dr Susie Bayley: GP Forward View has failed

Dr Susie Bayley from Derby and Derbyshire LMC - a leading member of the campaign group GP Survival - told the GPC executive at the LMC conference 2017 in Edinburgh on Friday that the profession needs to prepare to admit to patients that investment promised in the GP Forward View has not helped the service.

GP Forward View

Speaking to GPonline Dr Bayley said she believed the GP Forward View - which promised to increase annual GP funding by £2.4bn by 2020/21 - had ‘spectacularly failed’.

‘We need a time period ... when we turn around and say to the electorate, that they have been misled on the investment for general practice and we need to be honest to the public about that.’

She said: ‘Say, if in the next six months we have not seen a clear investment in general practice that has not gone to schemes and management consultants … at that point we will publicise widely the fact that that money is not coming to GPs and that the funding promised is inaccurate and misleading.’
