UK GPs to inspect German clinic

A group of GPs has visited Germany to investigate poly-clinics at first hand.

Nine GPs from the Family Doctor's Association (FDA) spent a weekend in Berlin, where they toured Polikum Friedenau, Germany's largest health centre.

Until three years ago, family doctors provided all primary care in Germany. But a 2004 health reform allowed private providers into Germany's primary care for the first time.

Before the trip Dr Michael Taylor, FDA chair, said: 'We're not going along to be critical.

'Polyclinics are good for looking after healthy young people, and in London will solve a lot of problems.'
