Tips for tax returns

GPs can avoid problems filling in their tax returns by adhering to a list of 10 'top tips' published by HM Revenue and Customs. Failing to sign the form is the key error taxpayers are warned about. Among other common mistakes are entering a 'yes' tick in questions one to nine, but failing to forward the corresponding supplementary page with the tax return. Failure to complete the 'self-employed pages, particularly page SE3 from box 3.74 onwards' is another major stumbling block. For help or more information contact www.hmrc.gov.uk or call the self-assessment helpline on 0845 900 0444.
