Third NMC official announces resignation

The debacle at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has claimed its third scalp with the resignation with immediate effect of Moi Ali, the vice president of its Council.

Ms Ali, a public relations consultant from West Lothian, has also resigned as a board member of Lothian NHS Trust.

Following a damning review by the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE), NMC Council president Nancy Kirkland and chief executive Sarah Thewlis announced their intent to resign. Ms Kirkland will go on 12 August.

Ms Ali said that DoH officials put direct pressure on her to resign.

‘As vice president of Council, you are limited as to what you can say. I am now unshackled and have my voice back.’
