Dr Will Carlile, a GP at the Pitsmoor Surgery in Sheffield, completed the ride in three weeks to raise more than £1,750 for the local charity, which supports adults with mental health problems.

Dr Carlile covered an average of 70 miles per day over the 21-day period, and took a total of 12 ferry crossings. He described the effort as a ‘long self-contained bike ride’.

‘The best part was simply just wonderfully varied and challenging cycling on some of the quietest and most remote roads imaginable,’ he said.
