Second time unlucky

Dr George Rae, GPC member for Tyne and Wear, missed out on becoming BMA's council chairman for a second time at last week's annual representatives meeting. Dr Rae, who lost out by one vote in 2003, lost for a second time to James Johnson (above right), a consultant surgeon in vascular and general surgery at the NHS Halton Hospital in Runcorn, Cheshire. Dr Sati Ariyanayagam, who has worked across both primary and secondary care, also stood for election to the post.
