Royal Berks hip patient fast tracks recovery with Hospital Care at Home

Berkshire businessman Chris Harper returned home more quickly after hip surgery at the Royal Berkshire Hospital by using the services of MediHome, the Hospital-Care-At-Home company.

MediHome Nurses provide high quality care at home to patients who would otherwise need to be in hospital following either surgery or an illness.  The patients remain under the clinical supervision of their hospital consultants, but are cared for by MediHome Nurses in the comfort of their own homes, typically leaving hospital 3 or 4 days sooner than they would do otherwise.

Chris Harper comments ‘my wife and I run our own business, I lead an active family life and play golf as often as time permits – the prospect of many days in the Royal Berks away from our business and home was worrying me.  Luckily before my operation I discovered MediHome, they visited me at home and confirmed that I was potentially a suitable patient for home care’.

A few days after surgery Chris was back home and in the care of MediHome, whilst under the guidance of his hospital consultant.  Chris again ‘For me the aftercare was crucially important in terms of helping me get back to a full life.  Just being in the comfort of my own home, with good food, a comfortable bed and a good night’s sleep accelerated my recovery’.

The MediHome service not only benefited Chris, but also The Royal Berkshire.  The hospital saves post-operative care costs, increases the availability of beds and makes better use of NHS resources.

Chris says ‘MediHome’s service made it possible for me to return home sooner.  The Royal Berkshire fixed my problem, but it was MediHome who put me on the road to recovery’.
