Review Body gives GPs 1.5% pay rise

GMS GPs are to receive a 2.29% gross pay increase intended to produce an average increase of 1.5% in net income.

The announcement by the Doctors’ and Dentists’ Review Body (DDRB) for 2009/10 was expected to be postponed until next month as this week’s GP reports.

Gill Bellord, director of pay, pensions and employment relations at NHS Employers, said: ‘Overall, the pay awards announced today… are lower than included in our evidence to the Review Bodies last Autumn.

‘However, we believe that the awards strike the right balance in being fair, whilst recognising both the challenging efficiency requirements that the NHS is being asked to deliver and the current economic climate.’
