ADHD adults work a month less

Workers with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) do 22 days less work a year than people without the disorder, according to a UK study of 7,000 workers aged 18-44, screened for ADHD and asked about work performance (Occup Environ Med Online 2008).

Gene raises risk of lung cancer
People with the genetic disorder alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency are at a greater risk of developing lung cancer. Comparison of 1,443 patients with lung cancer with 797 patients without showed those affected were 2.2 times more likely to develop lung cancer (Arch Intern Med 2008; 168: 1,097-1,103)

Global food crisis blamed on obese
Obese people are contributing to the world food crisis because of the amount they eat, warn UK researchers. They calculated that obese populations consume 18 per cent more calories than average, boosting global demand and pushing up prices (Lancet 2008 Online).
