Research Briefs: A third of Scottish births unplanned

One in three babies born in Scotland is the result of an unplanned pregnancy, according to Scottish researchers. The study of 2,908 women attending an Edinburgh hospital for antenatal care and 907 attending for abortion found that a third of pregnancies resulting in childbirth were unintended (Lancet 2006; 368: 1,782-7).
