Research briefs: Keep drinking the cocoa

Drinking a regular cup of cocoa could help prevent diseases such as diabetes, say US researchers. The number of deaths from IHD among American Indians living on the San Blas islands was a fifth of that seen on the mainland. This was because of their chocolate-rich diet. Researchers suggested that the high levels of the flavonol epicatechin, found in the cocoa, was helping to protect the American Indians from diseases (Int Med Sci 2007; 4: 53–8). P More on page 16
