Research brief: Vegetables sustain memory
A high intake of vegetables, but not fruit, could stave off cognitive decline in old age, a US study claimed. It included 3,718 people aged 65 years and older who gave diet details and took two cognitive tests over six years. The rate of cognitive decline was 40 per cent slower in those who ate at least 2.8 servings of vegetables a day, compared to those who ate less than one serving. (www.neurology.org).
