Research brief: High BMI associated with low cognitive scores
A high BMI in middle age is associated with accelerated cognitive decline, according to French researchers. The study of 2,223 people aged 32 to 62 years assessed medical, psychosocial and environmental factors, as well as cognitive function. A higher BMI was related to lower cognitive scores, especially on word-list learning, even when confounding factors were considered. (Neurology 2006; 67; 1,208–14).
