Research Brief: Hay fever sufferers miss out on exam marks

Students who have allergic rhinitis symptoms on an exam day are 40 per cent more likely to drop a grade in their GCSE exams, according to UK research. Researchers compared exam performances from 1,834 students aged 15-17 with responses to questionnaires on hay fever symptoms on the day of the exam. Those taking sedating antihistamines were 70 per cent more likely to drop a grade.
