Research Brief: Chronic dizziness linked to psychiatric conditions`

Chronic dizziness that cannot be ruled out as vertigo may be due to underlying psychiatric and neurological conditions, say US researchers. The study involved 345 patients aged 15–89 who had been referred for evaluation of dizziness for three months or longer from unknown causes. The patients were followed-up for up to six years until definitive diagnoses were made. Almost 60 per cent were diagnosed with primary or secondary anxiety disorders (Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 2007; 133: 170–6).
