Professor Field tells GPs to delegate patient care

A former RCGP chairman has called for GPs to 'be brave' and delegate more patient care to nurses and physician assistants.

Professor Steve Field told a London conference of more than 550 NHS clinical leaders this week that GPs needed to spend more time on complex cases and leave ‘rules’-based care’ to other colleagues.

Watch our video highlights of Professor Field’s speech to hear his other suggestions for changes to the role of GPs.

He was speaking at the Maximising Quality, Minimising Cost event, organised by UCL Partners and NHS trust regulator Monitor, with GP as media partner.
