Practices given a choice of eight IT system suppliers

A deal to protect GPs' ability to choose which practice IT system they use has moved forward after eight companies won a place on the government's list of approved providers under the GP Systems of Choice (GPSoC) initiative.

Eight of the nine companies that bid for the contracts offered by Connecting for Health (CfH) won a share of the work and the scheme was given Treasury approval last month.

Chairman of GPC information management and technology subcommittee Dr Paul Cundy said: 'I'm satisfied that the companies that have won the work are all capable of doing it well.'

GPs will be able to choose systems from any of these companies: CSC Computer Sciences, EMIS, In Practice Systems, iSoft, Healthy Software, Microtest, Seetec Business Technology Centre and Waveform Solutions.
