Eight of the nine companies that bid for the contracts offered by Connecting for Health (CfH) won a share of the work and the scheme was given Treasury approval last month.
Chairman of GPC information management and technology subcommittee Dr Paul Cundy said: 'I'm satisfied that the companies that have won the work are all capable of doing it well.'
GPs will be able to choose systems from any of these companies: CSC Computer Sciences, EMIS, In Practice Systems, iSoft, Healthy Software, Microtest, Seetec Business Technology Centre and Waveform Solutions.
