Practice recognised for its services to disabled patients

A Derbyshire practice has been awarded a prestigious £5,000 prize for its services to disabled patients.

The Evelyn medical centre in Hope, Hope Valley, was presented with the Disability Care Award by the RCGP for excellence in improving its disabled facilities.

The practice-trained staff to lip read and deal with other sensory impairment, organised bus services for patients, and actively targeted patients and carers to make sure they did not forget their own health requirements.

Dr Tom Adler, from Evelyn Medical Centre, thanked the patient who nominated the practice and said: ‘This generous award is a great honour.'

RCGP president Professor David Haslam said: ‘This is about rewarding practices who have dedicated their time to creating a focal point for the local community, where everyone feels their problems can be understood.'
