College Surgery in Cullompton was home to the ‘Loyal Variety Performance’ on 22 May. Ticket sales raised £1,500, with half of the proceeds going to Hospiscare in Exeter.

‘It was a resounding success,’ Dr Neil Rushton, who organised the event, told GPOnline. ‘I think it’s a first, holding a concert in a GP practice.’

The practice has a history of raising money for local charities and Dr Rushton says they will use the ‘amphitheatre-like’ space to hold several events a year.

Next, the practice will be hosting a play on dementia from a local theatre group, where audience members can choose what happens next.

‘It was great to have something nice to say about general practice, because it’s all doom and gloom nowadays,’ Dr Rushton said.
