PMETB on track for certification

The Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) has hit back at criticism from this month's annual LMC conference.

LMC delegates said that doctors should not be expected to fund PMETB's running costs and condemned predictions that some registrars would be unable to take up posts this August because of processing delays.

But PMETB director of certification Lesley Hawksworth said 'there are no delays at present'.

'Working with the RCGP we are well on the way to processing the 750 applications which have been received by both organisations to date so that doctors completing training on 31 July will have their certificates at least two to three days beforehand,' she said.

'However, quite a number of doctors who are due to complete training at the end of next month have still not applied to either PMETB or the RCGP. If they do not submit their applications in time PMETB cannot process them in time to enable them to start work on 1 August,' she said.

PMETB referred those with funding concerns to its recent fees consultation.
