Petition urges fresh NHS pay talks

Health professionals and members of the public are being urged to sign a petition calling on ministers to re-open pay talks for NHS staff.

Unite launched the petition after the retail price index, a measure of inflation, rose to 5 per cent this month.

The rapid increase in the rate of inflation has left the three-year pay deal for NHS staff, worth around 8 per cent over three years, looking less attractive.

‘At a time when people are experiencing significant rises in living costs they cannot avoid the government should urgently re-open pay negotiations,’ the petition states.
