Patients want extended hours, says Gordon Brown

Prime Minister Gordon Brown says extended hours would allow millions of people access to doctors 'at the time that they want them'.

Speaking to MPs during prime minister's question questions, Mr Brown said: ‘Our proposals are for practices to open for three more hours at weekends or in the evenings.

‘That is a sensible proposal to deal with the concerns of millions of families who want access to their GPs at weekends or out of ordinary working hours.

‘I hope that doctors will accept the proposal, which is funded by the DoH. That is the right way forward, so that millions of people can have access to their GPs at the time that they want them and need them.'

The GPC poll closes 29 February.
