Nearly 50 patients were struck off lists in Lothian and Greater Glasgow in 2006/7 alone because they were a threat to staff compared with 39 in 2005/6.
Statistics released by Scottish health secretary Nicola Sturgeon showed that 89 patients in Scotland were removed in 2006/7 because of violent behaviour.
The number has risen slightly from 83 reported in 2005/6.
Scottish GPC chairman Dr Dean Marshall said: 'GPs have welcomed legislation that provides additional legal protection to doctors who are assaulted when on duty.'
