Over 100 applications were made by those hoping to secure a share of the £20,000 initially made available as part of the Making a Difference fund for the Growing Patient Participation campaign supported by the DoH, the National Association for Patient Participation, NHS Alliance, RCGP and BMA.
The fund was launched in August 2009 to support PPG-led initiatives aimed at improving health services available to the local community.
The deadline for applications to be made in the second round is 12 January.
Successful bids must demonstrate that they are achievable, will respond to local patient needs and will have a real impact on the health and well-being of the local population.
Examples of entries received so far include supporting services for vulnerable patients, helping to run health promotion events, devising new ways of communicating with patients and carrying out research into out-of-hours provision.
