NHS Confederation chief executive to become permanent secretary

NHS Confederation chief executive Gill Morgan is to become permanent secretary to the Welsh Assembly Government in May.

The former GP, who hit the headlines in 2002, when she said that some GP surgeries were ‘too squalid to treat dogs' and became a dame in 2004, represents more than 95 per cent of the organisations that make up the NHS.

Steve Barnett, director of NHS Employers, which negotiates with the GPC on behalf of the DoH, will be acting chief executive. The Confederation will begin recruitment shortly.
