The NHS Alliance has published a guide to help GPs compete for services traditionally outside the remit of general practice. Services covered include anything that GPs usually refer for, but which could be done in the community, such as diabetes management or physiotherapy. 'The Nuts and Bolts of Primary Care Provision' discusses what opportunities will exist in the NHS in future, business models for providing services, and competition from new providers. The guide is free for NHS Alliance members, £10 to non-members. It is available from firstname.lastname@example.org or (01777) 869080.
