News in brief

Clexane warning
Healthcare professionals need to be vigilant to adverse drug reactions in patients taking enoxaparin (Clexane). The MHRA issued the warning after manufacturers Sanofi-Aventis found that some batches of Clexane in the UK market contain low levels of over-sulphated chondroitin sulphate.

Private health insurance
A growing number of UK residents are taking out private health insurance. Figures released by the Association of British Insurers show that last year the number of people with private insurance rose above six million for the first time since 2002.

PCTs must identify 10 potential polyclinic sites and resources have been committed to the polyclinic project to 'enable progress to be made quickly,' the report says.
