Ealing PCT in west London is using text messaging across 22 of its practices to remind patients about appointments. Targeting areas such as flu jabs and postnatal check-ups, it claims to have seen a 30 per cent reduction in DNAs at one pilot practice. Time normally spent on contacting patients is then also freed up to deliver more care.
