A blood test that detects proteins unique to lung cancer could be available within five to 10 years. Preliminary results, announced by French scientists at this year’s congress of the European Society for Medical Oncology this month, showed the test was accurate in 90 per cent of cases. Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer worldwide, with two million patients diagnosed annually.
