Healthcare assistants can administer the flu vaccine provided they are deemed competent, have documented training and a practical protocol is in place, the MDU has said. However, a nurse or doctor should supervise flu vaccine clinics. The advice follows several queries to the MDU from practices over the legal implications of delegating the task of flu vaccine administration to healthcare assistants.
