News in brief: Financial cutbacks hit GPs' links to carers

GPs who want to work more closely with carers in their communities are being hampered by financial cutbacks, according to the BMA. Extra resources would help GPs identify more carers, says the BMA's community care committee. GP Dr Helena McKeown, the committee chairman, said: 'Identification is a vital first step in ensuring a good working relationship which benefits both the carers and those they look after.'
