New leaders for National Programme for IT

The DoH has brought in two executives from outside the health sector to lead the National Programme for IT.

Christine Connelly is to be the programme's first chief information officer, charged with developing overall strategy and providing leadership across several NHS bodies.

She moves from a role heading the IT department at Cadbury Schweppes, and has previously worked for oil company BP.

Martin Bellamy will be director of programme and system delivery, and will head NHS Connecting for Health.

He moves from his position as chief information officer at the Pension Service.
