The scheme, called First5 will aim to provide extra support for GPs from the time they complete specialist training to their first revalidation point after five years.
Birmingham salaried GP Dr Clare Taylor has been appointed the colleges inaugural First5 CPD Fellow to push the initiative forward.
Dr Taylor said that new GPs could find it difficult to leave their well-supported role as a registrar and step out into the real world of general practice without the same sense of back-up.
