New GP recruitment videos focus on quality of working life in North West

As the application period opens for GP training schemes in 2019, a new series of videos from Health Education England North West shows how GPs are able to shape their own careers.

Previous recruitment videos helped the region to fill all of its 2018 GP training places, against a background of difficulties in rural areas such as Cumbria. The new series of three films offers snapshots of the lives of local GPs across the diverse region, with the aim of sustaining this success.

Bolton GP Dr Anne Hawkridge, who directed the videos, said: ‘Our existing GP recruitment videos feature our GP trainees and their view, so we wanted to give established GPs a voice too.’

The first video features three GPs in the earlier half of their careers showing how they have achieved a sense of balance and positivity, with themes such as the ability to shape your working life, the value placed on GPs by their patients and leading the way to living healthier lives.

The second video (below) features later career GPs explaining how new recruits can ‘make their careers whatever they want them to be’. The third video, due out early next year, will showcase the range of opportunities available in the region, including city life, teaching and training, and academic roles in general practice.
