Derry GP Dr Tom Black is set to be elected chairman of the Northern Ireland GPC later this week.

Currently deputy Northern Ireland GPC chairman, Dr Black is the only candidate nominated to take the place of chairman Dr Brian Dunn, who is retiring.

A BMA Northern Ireland spokeswoman said: 'He will officially take on the role at a Northern Ireland GPC meeting on 28 September.'

Budget cuts in Northern Ireland, possible pension changes and prescribing will be on the agenda at the upcoming meeting.
