New book by Coventry duo aimed at healthcare students

A senior lecturer and a librarian with forty years professional experience behind them are about to see the publication of their study aid book.

Senior Lecturer Philip Scullion and subject Librarian David Guest are the co-authors of a book called “Study Skills for Nursing and Midwifery Students”.

Nursing and Midwifery courses have entrants from a wide range of backgrounds and for many students these courses represent a career change.

A number of qualified nurses and midwives also undertake additional courses, many of which are based at Coventry University.

Philip Scullion said:

“The challenges of studying at University can be daunting and this book encourages students to make the most of the learning opportunities.  It particularly aims to enable them to develop confidence in study skills and fosters a learner-friendly approach which recognises the joys and strains of studying for professional practice.”

This book is an essential course companion for nursing and midwifery students at degree and diploma level, as well as those returning to study. It covers key skills and knowledge needed such as learning from patients, reflective practice, using evidence and how to research proficiently. Exercises and bullet points enhance reader learning.

The book, which is published by McGraw-Hill Education, Oxford University Press, will be on sale at the Waterstones book store from Wednesday 26 September and is priced £12.99.
