NEQAS NEWS Meeting Established Standards:

The National External Quality Assessment Service (NEQAS) has recently introduced an external quality assessment programme for CoaguChek XS and CoaguChek XS Plus.

The National External Quality Assessment Service (NEQAS) has recently introduced an external quality assessment programme for CoaguChek XS and CoaguChek XS Plus. The CoaguChek meters remain one of the only group of meters of its kind to have undergone a full independent assessment, that gives users complete confidence in the accuracy and precision of the results.

The availability of an external quality assessment scheme is expected in most near-patient testing protocols.     CoaguChek XS and XS Plus have an ISI of 1.0

CoaguChek XS and XS Plus have a batch to batch coefficient variation (CV) of 4.5%
Overall this means that healthcare professionals can be reassured that CoaguChek XS and CoaguChek XS Plus meters are accurate and precise, giving the user complete confidence.

Patient research        Results:

Recent patient research demonstrated that despite the proven safety and effectiveness and the positive impact on patient quality of life, the number of patients being encouraged to manage their own warfarin testing is low. However, those that did participate in self-testing reported great personal and clinical benefits.

Those patients already self-testing described total confidence in the reliability and accuracy of results and experienced increased independence, control, convenience, time saving and improved quality of life.
Healthcare professionals, with support from Roche Diagnostics and patient groups such as AntiCoagulation Europe, should feel confident to discuss the benefits of patient self-testing with their patients.

"In practical terms, self-testing quite simply changed my life. I was able to be much more independent and no longer had to arrange everything around appointments. Travelling was not a problem - I could just phone or email from wherever I happened to be. In addition, I was able to test whenever I had a particular reason to suspect I might be unstable. To me, this made perfect sense and gave me peace of mind that everything was OK." John Chisholm, Patient
