National clinical guideline centre created

Four guideline development centres for England and Wales have merged to form the National Clinical Guideline Centre.

The centre has been formed from the national collaborating centres for acute care, chronic conditions, primary care and nursing and supportive care.

The merger aims to introduce greater consistency into the way guidelines are produced and to increase recognition for innovative clinical and cost-effectiveness work.

The National Clinical Guideline Centre begins work tomorrow (1 April) and will be based at the Royal College of Physicians. It will be given support by the colleges that hosted these centres: the Royal College of Surgeons, the RCN, the RCGP and the Royal College of Physicians.
