MPs 'backing dispensing doctors'

Labour MPs are backing the Dispensing Doctors' Association's campaign against the pharmacy White Paper, its chief executive has said.

'The majority of MPs we're speaking to are supportive of the no change option,' said Dr David Baker, who lobbied MPs at the Labour party conference.

'Nobody strongly supports' options that would undermine dispensing practices, he said.

But he stressed that the battle had yet to be won. 'It's definitely positive. But we can't just say, "This looks good, let's stop campaigning",' he said.

Dr Baker also repeated GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman's warning that GPs should not overstate the effect of the White Paper on their practice.

'If we exaggerate, we won't be taken seriously,' he said.
