The Medical Protection Society (MPS) said its app was the first of its kind to offer GPs this type of information via mobile phones and tablet devices.
Claims against MPS members soared by 40% from 2011 to 2012, and a poll by the organisation found 58% of respondents had faced a complaint, claim or GMC investigation in the past 12 months.
The app will be updated regularly to reflect changes to guidance, the MPS said.
Dr Nick Clements, head of medical services at MPS, said: 'The healthcare landscape is rapidly changing. Doctors often have to manage complex ethical and legal issues. The MPS Advice app has been designed to allow doctors to access relevant support and guidance from their smartphone.
'We believe this app could help curb the rise in complaints and claims.'
The app includes more than 300 case reports and advice on topics relevant to doctors across the UK.
