Letters: Competent referral or passing the exam?

Dr Michael Devlin, on behalf of the MDU, advised on competent exercise referral (GP, 12 September).

The advice contradicts the advice by the RCGP's Case 4 CSA preparation DVD. Should registrars act competently and fail nMRCGP, or incompetently and pass the CSA?

Dr Tom Robinson, Sully, South Glamorgan

  • Dr Michael Devlin responds:

The DVD discusses clinical matters and we leave comment on that to others as our expertise is medico-legal.

Our article was intended as a general introduction to the medico-legal concerns doctors should bear in mind when considering whether to prescribe or recommend exercise to patients.

MDU members who have specific questions about certifying patients fit to exercise in specific cases are welcome to contact us for advice.
