Under the current agreement with the DoH, there will always be pressure to reduce costs in the form of under-inflation pay rises, more exacting quality targets and reduced enhanced schemes.
Moreover we are now locked into backing government policy and targets whether we agree with them or not.
Would this not be a good time to re-open the debate on primary care moving into the private sector? It was an option mooted by some GPs but never officially sanctioned by the GPC during the original negotiations on the new GMS contract.
Could the GPC consider this alongside its current action plan?
