Letters, calls and emails: RCGP does not support GP knowledge tests

Dear Editor,

We reject your report stating that the College is urging GPs to ‘help with the design of knowledge tests’ (GP, 23 March).

The College has repeatedly stated — including in its response to the CMO’s report — that it does not support the introduction of routine, mandatory, formal, high-stakes examinations — including knowledge tests — to revalidate doctors.

The plea that the College is making is to urge the GP community to shape the future development and content of revalidation, and for appraisers and educationalists not to disengage from the process.

Professor Mayur Lakhani
RCGP chairman
