Letters, calls and emails: A neat solution to the care home dilemma

Dear Editor

The opinions in the Dilemma on patients in a care home outlined expertly the doctor’s legal duty (GP, 13 October).

Having — recklessly? — agreed to keep an elderly couple who lived outside the practice area on their list, ‘visit triggers’ from care staff were leading to feelings of helplessness.

Of course there is a moral duty as well to the elderly. However, the couple were physically not bad. So I was surprised that no one raised the possibility of their attending in normal surgery hours.
