Letters Calls & Emails: Are Hewitt's details on the patientdatabase?

Dear Editor

We are now able to access the national patient database, even if it is only to obtain a minimal data set for Choose and Book.

All that is usually required is a name, date of birth, and sex. It would be an interesting exercise to see if secretary of state for health Patricia Hewitt (female, 22 December 1948) has allowed herself to be included.

I suspect she will not be. I think Anthony Blair, (male, 6 May 1953) is more likely to comply, although if there was more than one person with this name was born on this date you may need to add '10 Downing Street' in the address section.

If anyone feels inclined to try entering their details I would be interested to hear the results.

Dr Bill Spiegler, Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire.
