Letters, calls and emails: Funding swings make planning impossible

Dear Editor

I am dismayed at the news of a proposed cut in GP funding to limit profits.

We run a business, and investment has to be planned. We have been bedding in the contract, monitoring the work load and seeing the funding that it creates. As a result, we have this year appointed extra GP and nursing staff to run the new services.

Whether the funding is cut, or not increased in line with inflation, our expenses inevitably will rise. We will then have to consider making staff redundant. It is precisely this boom-and-bust culture that wrecks the NHS, making planning impossible, and morale unsustainable.
