Letter: Alcohol meter promotes drinking and driving

Dear Editor,

I am disappointed that GP would publish an article advertising an alcohol meter (GP, 16 June).

The author, Dr Peter Ilves, points out that 'even low levels of alcohol are enough to disrupt the abilities of the best drivers'.

Will this gadget allow us to push the boundaries every time we're out to ensure we can drink just enough to stay under the limit?

I put it to your readers that the one sure method is to have enough self control not to drink when driving. Then there can be no question, and you'd save yourself £109.67.

Dr William Murdoch, GP & clinical director of teaching, Heart of Birmingham Teaching PCT.
