Delegates at a conference run by National Voices, a coalition of health and social care charities, also called for more detail on how planned NHS reforms would ensure ‘more integrated care with less money’.
Patients added that it was vital that GP consortia delivered full support to those with rare conditions.
National Voices chief executive Jeremy Taylor said: ‘Our members are calling for greater power and control for patients and citizens at all levels of health and social care.
‘Sharing power should be a matter of professional pride for doctors and nurses.’
Mr Taylor said National Voices wanted to help write a revised version of the Hippocratic Oath to include a duty to involve patients in decisions.
